Today - A poem by Julie Wangombe

I recently read this poem entitled Today, by Julie Wangombe, and it was so beautiful and uplifting that I thought I just had to share. I hope you have a lovely day today! Enjoy:

TODAY

Today, I’ll write about laughter.
Delight in the mystery of happily ever after.
Fight the instinct to shrink away from the light into shell-cracked cocoon
To reflect on my wounds
Instead, I will abandon shoes to feel the morning dew – scented with possibility.
Today, I will stand right under noon-day sun until I am as close to whole as possible – without shadow.
With shadow – under my feet.
Today I will dare to find beauty in the mundane.
I will dance in the rain.
Today, I will call my sister.
Tell her, I miss her.
Today, I will read a book that isn’t famous.
Today I’ll dream without disclaimers.
Today, I will be happy.
Will not apologise for joy.
I know happy can be contagious. courageous. detract from the pain and yes -
Joy, is worth dying for.
So today, I will write about laughter.
About heart warming, rib racking, stomach splitting laughter.
And in today, I’ll see a surefire way to change the world.

A star is born: Prince of Cambridge

This is probably the most famous baby in the world right now

Last night, millions of people - included myself - crowded to watch the first sighting of the royal baby... and what a commotion it was. Gun salutes, bells ding-donging, people cheering...

After a healthily long wait, the family finally emerged

...and am I the only one who noticed how they kept saying, 'in 5 minutes', 'in 10 minutes', 'any minute now', 'shouldn't be long' every so often? I seriously nearly got into an argument with my mother as we were waiting for them to come. She wanted to change the channel simply because she was tired of staring at a wooden door. So I actually missed the exact moment they came out, but I got to see hundreds of reruns.

I must say, they looked so charming

Also another thing to note is the similarity between Kate and the late Princess Diana. Perhaps it was coincidence (probably not) but the new mother wore a very similar dress to that which Princess Diana wore to show off her son...

 Congratulations to the new parents.

Stay sweet

FAFA Insight: June 2013

I love African fashion. There's just nothing like it. The bold colors, daring designs and intricate details; its phenomenal.

FAFA fashion
I mean, seriously: Where else would someone were a necklace like that?

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure and privilege of attending a fashion show in Nairobi known as FAFA Insight. The show was an opportunity for up-and-coming talents in Nairobi to showcase their talent and gain great exposure. I must say, there were some serious show stoppers. Here are just a few pictures taken from the show to tingle your fashion taste buds:

One thing I also love about the different styles that were exhibited was that they needed a certain person / character to pull them off. I truly feel that some of the designs are beautiful, but become so much more amazing simply because of the model that wears them. For example, the following were a couple of my favorite, simply because they combined beautiful clothes with beautiful women in powerful poses:

So there you have it. Some of Kenya's finest talents. What did you think? Which did you like the most? What interests you most about African fashion? Let me know.

Perhaps it was curiosity, perhaps chance, perhaps a good old fashioned accident - but somehow, someway, you have stumbled upon my blog. And you'll be glad you did.
