When Character is Born

This is a poem entitled 'When Character is born'. I won't tell you what its about. Sometimes your own interpretation can be interesting and revealing, so make of it what you will...

When the spawn of pride and injury presents itself,
An offering, veiled on a gleaming platter,
Makeup'd to suit your appeal,
Tendering greatest satisfaction to your honor,
And promising remarkable assurance of its healing,
Then, shall there be two paths by which a choice,
(they bear equal confidence, though contrary effect)
Will shape your character.
The handsome opportunity resolves submission:
Respect and pride shall be restored.
Its lofty standards do boast heavy foundations
Which weaker spines cannot bear.
Alas, the other grants no glorious semblance, save
To reach its zenith demands no burden.
By your choosing, incentive of your morals shall be shone;
Either a dazzling light, bright and fleeting,
Or a twinkle, magnified by time.
